JCDecaux takes action to fight climate change
On 23 September, the UN Secretary-General convened a summit in New York to raise the ambition of world leaders to implement urgent action on climate change.
Climate change is one of the biggest threats we face today as a global society. JCDecaux's ambition since its inception in 1964 has been to provide innovative solutions for urban and transport infrastructure at no cost to the taxpayer. All the solutions we including ongoing day-to-day maintenance are designed to have minimal impact on the environment. We apply sustainable design principles to the development of our products and wherever possible we use recyclable materials, electric vehicles, collected rainwater and solar energy.
Our most environmentally friendly product innovation is the free pioneered over 15 years ago, paving the way for free bike-sharing the worldwide bicycle revolution that is benefiting millions of people today.
As the world's largest outdoor advertising company, JCDecaux reaches a audience of more than 800 million people every day. We have therefore chosen to to use our advertising platform to create awareness of climate change, which has already been done in many cities around the world. We during the C40 summit in San Francisco, and before and during the global climate summit in Mexico City, and in Paris during the recent Women4Climate. Now we're doing it again, this time in New York, with a artistic campaign called Warning Global Warming, developed by Danish designer Per Arnoldi.
Responsibility for tackling climate change lies with us all of us. The solutions lie in the hands of every person and every business. We are all concerned and play an important role in climate adaptation. It is our hope that more cities will include sustainability criteria with significant weight in their tender requirements as Copenhagen did. It is important to lead by example example on this issue. There is no compromise. It is possible to to create sustainable and responsible growth. Today we are proud to announce that JCDecaux is the first outdoor advertising company to join the RE100 agreement, committing to 100% of the Group's global electricity consumption comes from renewable energy by 2022.
